The work was implemented as part of After Hours – Haus Am Rhein exhibition in a villa on the banks of the Rhine in Basel, scheduled for demolition in autumn 2026. The group project transformed the former residence into a hybrid space for artistic production, residency and exhibition.Installation, plywood.
A wooden installation takes form in the garden. The structures evoke a suspended theatrical set, rather than a stable object. Within it, fragmented mythological scenes drawn from Stolterfoth’s Rheinischer Sagenkreis and mediated through the historical illustrations of Alfred Rethel emerge as provisional apparitions, assembled from the visual grammar of Romantic illustration and the debris of modern building processes.
Given the house’s impending fate of being demolished, Andrews treats destruction not as an endpoint, but as a condition through which history briefly resurfaces
